Sometime around 1990, the concept of establishing an organization solely devoted to spirituality arose in our Guruji, Lt. Col. R.I. Easwaran (Retd.). Along with the prompting, the thought also sprouted, to christen this organization ‘YOGA SANGAM’. The actual coming into existence of Yoga Sangam took place on 26-9-1993 at 12-A, Nandadevi, Anushaktinagar, Mumbai 400 094, with the enthusiasm shown by Sri. R, Ramachandran the President of Yoga Sangam since its inception.
Lt. Col. R.I. Easwaran was initiated by Swami Vivekananda in a series of dream visions, and after a long struggle, even as he carried on an active life in the Army, ultimately attained the state of Oneness which is the goal of spirituality. The trials and tribulations on this arduous journey are narrated in his Autobiography, From Darkness to Light. Subsequently, in accordance with the dictum, aatmano mokshaartham jagad hitaaya cha, Guruji has devoted his life to spreading the message of the Rushis among those who are interested to pay heed to it. Spirituality is the way to absolute knowledge; it brings immeasurable bliss and joy; and it makes life’s journey smooth by removing all obstacles thus bringing to an end all suffering in life.
Yoga Sangam is a forum for satsangams which have been in regular progress at different places over the years, and the discourses given by Guruji at these satsangams have been audio-taped. The satsangams give opportunities for the disciples to interact with their Guru and among themselves, and promote a spiritual course of lifestyle among seekers in general. These satsangams are presently being conducted at 503, Bldg. No.8, Sun Paradise II, Anandnagar, Vithalwadi, off Simhagadh Road, Pune 400051.
Yoga is the only way of life to attain life’s goal, which is moksha, liberation from Karma-bandha --- the cycle of birth and death --- after breaking all barriers and obstacles that stand in the way.
Yoga Sangam does not promote a ritualistic approach to life. Yoga Sangam propagates, on the other hand, the teachings of the Rushis enshrined in the Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, and other associated works such as, Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Laghu Yoga Vaasishtha, Srimad Bhaagavata etc.
Yoga Sangam does not collect any membership fee. Its membership is open to anyone who cherishes the ideals for which Yoga Sangam has been founded, and seeks guidance in following its precepts. Funds for its activities are generated by voluntary donations.
In the furtherance of Yoga Sangam’s objective of spreading the message of the Rushis we have published a number of books authored by Guruji, as listed in the appropriate link. We also publish a quarterly spiritual journal, the Yoga Sangam Bulletin. A few excerpts from these publications are also available on the link.
